Patricia Kirk Kimmel

Patricia Aline Kirk Kimmel, 89, died peacefully in her home with family by her side on December 7, 2023. She was born August 20, 1934, Milam County, TX to Wiley Hobson Kirk and Thelma Bertelle McGregor. She married JD Kimmel on November 22, 1957, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston, TX and they raised two daughters, Kristina and Laurie.

Though she grew up in a small town, Patricia had big city aspirations and moved to Houston, where she got a job at Humble Oil. She met and married JD Kimmel, and together they started a family while she pursued and obtained an Art History degree from the University of Houston. Proud of her Texas roots, Patricia was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was also a member of the Memorial Antiquers Club and the AAUW. Patricia loved art, museums, the theatre and especially loved traveling with her husband across the globe.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, JD Kimmel, her father Wiley Hobson Kirk; her mother, Thelma McGregor; brothers Wiley Kirk “Junior”, Cecil Kirk and Wendell Kirk, and sisters Addie Mae Loewe and Frances Bush.

Patricia will be deeply missed by her daughters, Kristina Kimmel Morris and her husband Michael Morris, and Laurie Kimmel Van Cleave and her husband Luke Van Cleave; grandchildren Regan Seliger and her husband Doug, Robert Hunter Morris and fiancé Sarah Dnistrian, Evan Morris, Cameron Van Cleave and Timothy Van Cleave; great-grandchildren Emmie and J.D. Seliger; nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The University of Houston, Fine Arts Building, 4188 Elgin St., Room 120, Houston, TX 77204-4018, Attn: Susana Monteverde, in memory of Patricia Kimmel.
