

Dr. Paul Michael (Mike) Davis, age 75, of Roswell Georgia died at his home on December 2, 2015. He was a native of Huntington, West Virginia, and was the son of Paul Garrett Davis and Helen Alfrey Davis. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1958. Dr. Davis held a B.B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati, an M.A, from the University of Florida, a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, a J.D. from the University of Kentucky and an LL.M. degree from Boston University. He was a CPA in the states of Florida and Maryland and was a member of the Kentucky, Tax Court, Federal, and Supreme Court Bars.
His career in collegiate education spanned 36 years and included positions at Columbus College (now Columbus State University), The University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Illinois, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Baltimore. In 1992, he was named Accounting Educator of the year by the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and was a member of that organization’s Board of Directors. He held the first Ernst & Young Professorship at the University of Baltimore, 1992-1996. In 1990 and again in 1998 he was given the Spirit of Excellence Award by the University of Baltimore Alumni association. He was author or co-author of over 50 journal articles, books, and monographs. At the University of Kentucky, he served as Chairman of the Department of Accounting. At the University of Baltimore, he was Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Associate Director of the Graduate Tax Program. In 1999, he became Professor Emeritus of Accounting at the University of Baltimore and relocated to the Atlanta area.
Dr. Davis was a near lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was an Eagle Scout and a Silver Award Explorer. As an adult Scouter, he received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. He was a James E. West Fellow and a member of the Scouting Heritage Society. He attended Philmont Scout Ranch several times, National Scout Jamborees and the Florida Sea Base.
Dr. Davis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His great loves were scouting, traveling in his RV and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, Georgia. He is survived by his spouse of 31 years, Dr. Margaret Triplett Davis, daughter, Elizabeth Isaacs Sewell, son in law Stanford B. Sewell, his granddaughters Rachel Elizabeth Sewell, Anna Leslie Sewell, sister in law Dixie Davis, and his nephews Paul Garrett Davis and Greg Allen Davis. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Gary Malcolm Davis and a son, Leslie Alan (Skip) Isaacs.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. David’s Church, 1015 Old Roswell Rd., Roswell, GA 30076. A reception will follow at the Church.
