OBITUARY

Paul Vaughn Wyatt

September 26, 1926July 29, 2020

Our Dad, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, affectionately known as “Papa Pete”, Paul Vaughn Wyatt resided in Sandy Springs Ga for 60 years with his wife and three children. Born in Bartley, West Virginia to Lenny and Fannie Wyatt, Dad helped work the family mill and Construction Company until joining the U S Army in 1943. His military experience with B-29 aircraft started a long career in the skies.

In 1947, after his Honorable Discharge, he met his love and wife to be, Thelma Pinkley. Their marriage in 1949 would begin a 59 year commitment. Through those years they raised three children: Dale Wyatt, Dianna Wyatt and David Wyatt.

Dad received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and began his career at the Lockheed Martin Company. Dads experience building the F-104, C-140 Galaxy, C-130 Hercules, L-1011, Bell Helicopters and DeHavilland Aircraft spanned 40 years. Building, and testing in flight for the final aircraft to deliver to the military and commercial airlines for Lockheed Martin was his passion.

Dads outside work interest with his family was traveling, woodworking, and camping. He also loved to spend time body surfing the Georgia coast line and in his later years enjoyed spending many days at the Gulf of Mexico, Pensacola Beach.

Dad loved each and every family member; leaving his legacy of (7) seven grandchildren and (10) ten great grandchildren. We all love him very much and will miss him every day.

Papa Pete certainly left a footprint in your lives and in his professional contributions. What stories I’m sure he shared of those test flights... what adventures! We shared a few meetings with him, but certainly could have learned much from this man. Y’all are blessed in his legacy. Love and prayers from Indiana.

What a life and legacy! I loved seeing his eyes light up when his great-grand daughters would come to visit for lunch! He was a man of few words but you could see the joy and pride in his eyes. You will be missed sweet Papa Pete!

I had no idea that Papa Pete was an electrical engineer and liked to body surf! How cool was he?! Thinking of y’all during this time and hoping memories give you peace. We are sending you prayers and love from Illinois.

I'll never forget this airplane model I bought when I was 10. I was so excited. As I opened it I realized it was too hard for me to do. Papa Pete with his love of airplanes and engineering skills took the kit, and worked on it over the course of a week. When my dad and I came back over, Papa Pete had assembled it perfectly and had it waiting for me to take home. That's the kind of grandpa he was, he would do anything for family time, and time again.
