

Phillip Randolph Carter, Sr., 77, of Roswell, passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. The son of James Randolph & Mary Ellen Carter, Phil was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 28, 1937. He graduated from Chattanooga High School & received an NROTC Scholarship to Auburn University. Upon college graduation, Phil served in Naval Intelligence in Washington, DC then moved to Huntsville, AL where he joined Brown Engineering. After a short stint at Brown Engineering working on NASA’s Saturn V control systems, he was recruited by Hewlett Packard to help start up the Southern Sales Region. Phil spent almost thirty years working for HP in Huntsville, AL, Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, & Palo Alto, CA. After retiring in 1995, Phil returned to the Atlanta area to be near his children & grandchildren. Phil spent his retirement doing what he loved: traveling around the world with his wife Judi, playing golf at Rivermont Country Club with his son Clay, teaching & attending Sunday School at Mt. Pisgah, & creating family traditions with his granddaughters that they will cherish forever. His parents along with his wife & mother of his children, Lenora Elizabeth Carter, precede him in death. He is survived by his second wife of almost 19 years, Judi Wood Carter; his son Phillip Randolph Carter, Jr. (Randy) & Blithe Hoffman of Raleigh, NC; his son John Clayton Carter (Clay) & wife, Kathy Irwin Carter, of Winston, GA; his daughter Anita Frances Hulsey & husband, Steven Thomas Hulsey, of Euharlee, GA; his granddaughters Kasey Elizabeth Carter & Carleigh Elaine Carter of Winston, GA & Alexandra Faith Hulsey of Euharlee, GA. Phil also leaves his brother Michael Vander Carter & wife, Kathy Carter, of Bonita, CA; his sister, Ellen Carter Schreeder, of Zachary, LA; & his stepson, Bran Wood, of Roswell, GA. Per his request, a cremation has been performed. A Celebration of Life will be held at Rivermont Country Club on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 1pm to 3pm.
