Meredith was born on November 18, 1944, in Fort Myers, Florida. He lived a life defined by kindness, humility, and quiet faith. He was steadfast in his belief in serving others, extending help without hesitation, and finding gratitude in life’s everyday blessings.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Dymple Layman; his son, Britt Layman (Sherie); and his cherished grandchildren, Annie and Ford. Meredith is also survived by his baby sister, Patty Horton, his nephew Andy Horton (Lori), and two precious nieces, Caroline and Kinsley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Altha Layman.
Meredith enjoyed a distinguished career with True Value, during which he had the opportunity to meet notable personalities such as Minnie Pearl and Lee Greenwood through his appearances on Nashville Now in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Meredith was also honored to appear on the IndyCar racing podium, where he participated in award presentations to distinguished figures such as Paul Newman and Mario Andretti. Following his retirement, he began a second career with Benmark and later co-founded a firm with two close friends.
Throughout his life, Meredith took great pride in supporting his son’s athletic pursuits and found enjoyment in waterskiing (he could barefoot ski in his sixties), following Alabama football, and celebrating Mardi Gras. He especially treasured his role as “Pop” to his grandchildren, Annie and Ford. His steady presence, generous spirit, and warm encouragement left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His quick wit and easy humor were a source of joy to family and friends, and his ability to make others smile will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cross Creek Café in Atlanta. A religious service will be held in Mississippi at a later date.
Meredith Layman will be remembered with enduring love, respect, and gratitude by all whose lives he touched.
The Layman family extends their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to their dear friend, Dr. Zia Abdi, whose dedicated care and unwavering support over the past two years meant so much to Meredith and to the family.
