Born October 2, 1944, in Lancaster, PA to Charles Edward and Vera Snavely, she grew up in the towns of Lancaster, PA and Saint Petersburg, Florida. A graduate of Saint Petersburg High School, she attended Florida State University where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work.
Sandy attended Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Johns Creek, GA. Always active in her Church, she was a member of the choir and ministered to those who could not attend services by delivering tapes of the Sunday services. As Mount Pisgah grew, she became a Stephens Minister where she counseled individuals in crisis. For a number of years, she was a volunteer at the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children. Sandy was always ready to help those experiencing grief or need. Friends sought her out for her calming presence, and she was always ready to be by your side.
Sandy devoted her life to the service of others and shared with her children the importance of helping others. She liked to work and was proud of what she did. Her early career included working at the Correctional Institute for Women in Tallahassee, Florida, followed by Social Work in Tallahassee, Florida and Oakland, California. Upon returning to Atlanta, she actively supported families at Techwood Homes.
Sandy was also a creative entrepreneur. She established the Sandy & Jill Craft Show that was prominent in the Roswell area for over 10 years. After “retiring” from the craft show she worked at Highpoint Furniture and had several antique booths in the local area. Much of her work was done to ensure that she could be a loving and present mother to her children.
Over the years, Sandy could be found on the tennis courts playing doubles with her best friend, enjoying the pool with her grandchildren, having lunch with her friends, as well as attending book club and Hightower Trail Explorer’s meetings.
More than anything Sandy loved spending time with her family, friends, and grandchildren. Her smile, kindness, and generosity will be missed.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jonathan (Jon) Tuuri, son and daughter-in-law David and Candace Owens, granddaughter Presley Taylor, daughter and son- in- law, Karin and Andrew Lovell, grandchildren Adia, Jack, and Cole, brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Barbie Snavely, and their lovely children and grandchildren.
