Shubal King “Buck” McMillan III, 63, was called home to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on November 29, 2013. He passed away peacefully at his Woodstock home surrounded by family and friends after a valiant four and a half year battle against colon cancer. His mission, once he was diagnosed, was to educate others about the importance of early detection through colonoscopies.
The son of the late Col. and Mrs. S.K. McMillan Jr. of Largo, Florida and Demopolis, Alabama was a graduate of the University of Florida and spent many years living and working in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Barcelona, Spain before moving to the Atlanta area in 1981.
Buck is dearly missed by his wife Jackie, daughter Brittany, son S.K. “Shack” McMillan IV, sister Kathleen Jamison, much-loved sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, members of his Tapestry and Crosspointe church families and many other friends.
He will be remembered for his deep faith, love of people, generosity, optimism, sense of humor, and love of the Florida Gators and the Atlanta Braves.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at Tapestry Community Church, 800 Hembree Road, Roswell, followed by a celebration of life reception.
An “Air Force brat” himself and the father of a Marine who served recently in Afghanistan, Buck’s wish was for donations to be made in lieu of flowers to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd, Suite 102 PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057 or semperfifund.org.
