She is predeceased by her parents Douglas and Mary Walker (nee Britton), her brother and his wife Neil and Odeen Walker, and brothers–in-law Craig Ezell and George DeWolf.
Sylvia was born in Wayne County, Mississippi on June 5, 1932 to Douglas and Mary Walker (nee Britton). She graduated from the Mississippi State College for Women in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secretarial Science, as well as earning her teaching certificate. She was an adventurous person who worked for the Civil Service. Her last assignment for the Civil Service was a position on a US Air Force Base in Chateauroux, France. She met her husband John while he was stationed on the Air Force Base in France. They were wed Christmas Day 1955 in Waynesboro Mississippi. They honeymooned driving across the country to the Los Angeles, California area, where they settled in Woodland Hills.
Sylvia had a very successful career as an executive secretary at Rocketdyne, Rockwell International and retired in 1987. She and John retired to Palm Desert, California and spent wonderful years looking out their back windows down the 18th fairway of Palm Desert Sun City. She loved to see the snowcapped mountains in the distance over the golf course and desert landscape.
She loved hosting bridge and neighborhood parties through the years. They had a special group of lifelong friends dubbed “The Soup Group” that got together for dinner parties, Super Bowl Parties, played golf and even traveled together.
Travel was another of Sylvia’s passions. She loved cruising to many destinations. They traveled to almost every continent, as well as Iceland, New Zealand, the South Pacific Islands, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal.
She and her husband relocated to Georgia three years ago after living in California to be closer to their daughter DeAnna.
Sylvia’s grandchildren have very special memories with their “Mam”. Cruising, trips to the Grand Canyon, card games (Hand & Foot, Black Jack), snuggles and holiday dinners (“Don’t wait, eat while it’s hot!”).
In respect of her wishes, Sylvia will be cremated. There are no services planned at this time due to family illness.
