Talbot “Scott” Cuthbert was born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania to Joanne and Talbot Cuthbert on January 29, 1946. He passed away on April 23, 2012 in Roswell, Georgia at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife Jackie and his daughter Laura. Scott was a member of the Rotary Club of North Fulton, the VFW, Crow Canyon Masonic Lodge, and Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Scott was born with a passion for life and live d with a passion for service. He was raised in Ridgway – a small town with a big heart, where everyone knew everyone – and moved to California while in high school, where he graduated from Castro Valley High in 1963. He loved all things sports and sang in Castro Valley’s madrigal choir.
Scott went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. He sang as part of the Navy chorus at President John F. Kennedy’s funeral, then served in Vietnam. After the Navy, Scott graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He spent more than 30 years in management positions in the hospitality industry – in California, Pennsylvania and the U.S. Canal Zone, Panama.
Scott joined Rotary in Castro Valley, California in 1986. His first priority on moving to Georgia in 1994 was finding a Rotary Club. In the process, he became part of the Founding Committee for the Roswell Vietnam War Memorial (later he worked with the Rotary Clubs of Roswell to make the Memorial center stage of the annual Roswell Memorial Day event). The Roswell Memorial Day Committee continues its work today.
Scott brought energy and a passion for International Service and The Rotary Foundation to the Rotary Clubs of Roswell East, Dunwoody, and North Fulton. He sponsored more than 25 new members in his Rotary career, and participated in International Service projects throughout Mexico and Central America – building schools, providing eye exams, distributing wheelchairs and school supplies. In recent years, Scott and Jackie led several Dunwoody trips to Costa Rica, where they partnered with the Heredia Rotary Club to make a difference in children’s lives, and Scott helped Centennial High School to start its Interact Club. Scott was a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation and a Paul Harris Society member. He was Rotary District 6900’s GSE team leader to Brazil. Scott and Jackie have served several times as a Georgia Rotary Student Program host family, and are both Will Watt Fellows.
The family requests donations to The Rotary Foundation or the Roswell Memorial Day Committee in lieu of flowers.
