

Thomas Emory “T.E.” Gurley, 84, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away on February 10, 2015. Thomas was born in Dallas, GA on October 6, 1930. He attended West Fulton High School and graduated from Georgia Tech with a civil engineering degree. After serving in the U.S. Army as an instructor at the engineering school in Fort Belvoir, VA, he pursued a 40 year career with Norfolk Southern Railway, retiring as General Manager, Western Lines. T.E. loved to fish, hunt and volunteer at Georgia state parks and the Chattahoochee Nature Center. An avid bird watcher, T.E. enjoyed building bluebird houses and photographing flowers, birds and his grandchildren. He was a member of Roswell First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. T.E. is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Gurley and brother, Dr. Carroll C. Gurley. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Gurley; sons, Thomas Emory (Leslie) Gurley, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA, Andrew Lee (Margaret) Gurley of Houston, TX; grandchildren, LT Jessica Gurley (Matthew) Fennell, Medical Corp, USN of Portsmouth, VA, and Thomas Emory Gurley, III of Richmond, VA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 3:00pm at Roswell Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life service to follow at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Youth Ministry of Roswell First Baptist Church.
