Tom was born on May 7, 1943 in Columbia, Tennessee to Hazel and Catherine Gilliam. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force and worked for L&N CSX Railroad as a conductor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Columbia, Tennessee. Tom was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion.
Tom’s hobbies included playing the guitar/spoons, singing and cards. Tom also enjoyed listening to music, traveling, and watching University of Tennessee Football.
He is preceded in death by his Father Thaddeus Hazel Gilliam, Mother Regina Catherine West and his previous wife Dianne Kaye Gilliam.
Survivors include: His wife; Peggy Dempsey Gilliam, Daughter; Cynthia Gilliam Hubbs, from his former marriage to Martha McDonald, and Cynthia’s husband, Bart Hubbs, Son; John Thomas Gilliam and wife, Crystal Cole Gilliam, Daughter; Summer Gilliam Mahan and husband Chad Mahan, Son; Anthony Welsh and wife Brandy Welsh, Sister; Beverly Jean Tresch and seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
