Thomas Joseph Livernois, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 18, 1934, to Theresa and Lawrence Livernois in Warren, Michigan, Tom lived a long, full life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to the people who mattered most.
Tom was a beloved husband and father whose quiet strength, steady presence, and gentle spirit shaped his family in ways words can barely capture — though his family would gladly add that his talent for delivering perfectly timed one liners was equally influential. He was known for his quick wit and easy smile, his unmistakable dad jokes — the kind that made everyone groan before they laughed — and, above all, his ability to make the people around him feel seen, supported, and loved. Nothing brought him more joy than cheering on his children in their activities — whether from the baseball bleachers, the tennis courts, or the front row of a choral performance, where he took great pride in being the loudest (and often most off key) supporter in the room. He showed up, every time, and that became one of the greatest gifts he ever gave. And if you asked him, he’d insist that his presence alone improved the team’s performance — purely through moral support, of course.
Tom spent an incredible 42 years with General Motors. He loved telling the story of starting in the mailroom — “below the basement,” as he liked to say — and proudly working his way up to Regional Manager of the Insurance Division with General Motors. Through hard work and integrity, he built a career he was proud of, though his children always insisted he must have had the most comfortable “newspaper reading job” in the company — a claim he never fully denied. What truly defined his career, though, wasn’t his title but the relationships, mentorship, and quiet leadership he offered throughout his decades of service.
He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 56 years, Rene, his partner in every sense of the word — and the only person patient enough to listen to the same joke told three different ways; his children Mary (Christopher Hyde) and Andrew (Emily), who carry forward his humor, resilience, and capacity to love; and his grandchildren CJ (13), Calvin (10), Katherine (10), Caroline (10), and Clara (6), who adored their Gramps and brought him immeasurable joy — especially when they pretended his recycled jokes were brand new material. He took great pride in being their favorite comedian, even if half the time they were laughing at him, not with him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Richard, Mary Therese, Joan, and Virginia, who no doubt welcomed him home.
Visitation and Rosary will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 6–8pm at Roswell Funeral Home (950 Mansell Road, Roswell, GA 30076). A Mass of Remembrance will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church (11045 Parsons Road, Duluth, GA 30097), where family and friends will gather to honor Tom’s life, his legacy, and the tremendous love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of the man who faced this devastating disease with courage, grace, and an unwavering spirit for 16 years.
The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to Tom’s caregiver, Veronica, whose compassion, patience, and kindness helped carry them through this past year.
