Wanda Yvonne Walton Jackson, aged 74, passed away on July 5, 2026. She was born on September 20, 1951, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Norman William and Jimmie Pearl Walton. Wanda grew up on the campus of the Alabama State University and attended their Laboratory School where she participated in the choir, cheer leader squad, honor society, and science club. Wanda was the Valedictorian of the final graduating class of the historic Laboratory High School, which forever links her to the achievements of a historic institution that championed progressive education for Blacks during the 60s.
At age 6, Wanda was one of fewer than 50 parishioners baptized by Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during his pastorship at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. She led her two older brothers to be among these also.
Wanda attended Howard University, where she went on to become a Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a major in chemistry. In her professional work with Martin Marietta, Johnson and Johnson, and Kimberly Clark companies, she amassed 14 patents, before retiring and creating her own creative thinking consulting center called Bungee Brains. Her creative thinking workshops introduced many to new paradigms, aided in the improved workings of companies, and the development of new creations. She was a valued source of advice. Wanda’s work stands as a lasting testament to the legacy of excellence.
Wanda’s life was enriched by her boundless creativity. Whether she was crafting gifts or creating things for herself, her artistic spirit shone through everything she did. Above all, she treasured time with her family and enjoyed the ocean, especially the shores of Florida and California.
Wanda leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Tifani Bradley and, son-in-law, Jason; her grandson, Jackson; her brothers, Norman Walton III (Denise), Edward Walton (Pamela); her sister Renee Walton (Keith Binford); sister-in-law Marcia Walton; nieces, Francine Walton, Angelina Walton (James Wilkerson), Kimberly Louis; nephew Norman Walton IV (Meresha); grandnephews and nieces Jonte, Dominique, Ryan, Christopher, Jacob, and Norman V; along with many other extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by Norman Walton, Jimmie Pearl Walton and her husband of 55 years, James Jackson.
