Colonel William Howard Hames, Jr (Bill), age 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 6, 2017 in Alpharetta, GA. He was born September 23, 1940 in Marietta, GA to William Howard and Nadine Groce Hames, Sr. He grew up in Rome, GA and was a 1959 graduate of Newnan High School. He attended West GA College and then the University of Georgia where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry. He also obtained his Masters of Science degree from Frostburg State University. He entered the Army in March of 1965 and in June 1966, he married Gitta Denise Angel Delhaye. Together, they had 2 children (Michael and Melissa). He served his country for 30 years with honor and dignity while still being a loving husband and an amazing father. He was an avid fisherman and a master gardner. He is survived by his wife, Gitta; son, Michael Hames and daughter-in-law Virginia; daughter, Melissa Hames-Smith; and 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Ryan, Jessica and Alexander.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 5-6pm followed by a reception with the family from 6-8pm at Roswell Funeral Home
