A WWII veteran, Bill served our country proudly in the United States Army fighting in Europe. Career wise, he was a successful electrical & electronic equipment assembler working for one company in excess of 40 years. Retirement allowed him more time to work on his vending business he established and the arts & crafts business he shared with Rosemarie, his wife of 57 years before her passing.
He and Rosemarie were a team – they did everything together and she said he would never last without her. On this, he proved her wrong for 18 years.
Bill was “street smart” and handy, always trying to figure out a better or more efficient way of doing something. He always wanted to be busy and well into his 90’s was asking for jobs he could do at his grandson’s business. Even if something had to be created for him to do, it was great to have him around.
Bill & Rosemarie had plenty of time to travel and took many cruises, they sometimes didn’t even get off the ship in port. They loved the shows, the dancing and of course the food. Especially the desserts for him.
Bill appreciated life and no day was to be wasted. He was interested in and marveled at what others could do whether it be a huge construction project or the arrangement of Christmas lights. He was interested in others and always asked his own children how spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even in laws were doing. He kept up with all of their activities. He was so proud of them and their formal educational accomplishments, something he never had the opportunity for.
Bill was a devoted husband, outstanding father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who could always be counted on. He would always be there for you.
Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemarie. He is survived by his children; Gary Philipps, Dolores Brown; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all have great memories to share and stories to tell.
Although he adapted to retirement in North Carolina and Atlanta, Bill will now rest where it all began, his beloved New York.
