William Robert “Bob” Phillips, age 71, passed away March 8, 2026 at his home in Marietta, Georgia. He was born April 25, 1954 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Henry and Lorraine Phillips. He was a beloved husband of 52 years to Carol Phillips and father to Ian Robert Phillips (Delila), Eric Cecil Phillips and Holly Christine Phillips Jackson (Spencer).
Bob loved fishing, shooting, traveling around the world and electricity. He started his career in IBEW 613 as a journeyman electrician. For the rest of his career he maintained he was “just an electrician”. He began working for Inglett & Stubbs Electrical Contractors in the mid 1970’s. A few years later he moved into the office as a project manager. He started with a focus on hospitals. In the mid-80s Bob got involved with building data centers and ended up doing the first tier 4 data center for a company in Atlanta. This led to many other data center projects in this country and around the world.
Inglett & Stubbs changed ownership around 2000 and Bob decided to retire. After trying his hand at car sales and rental houses, he decided to go back to his passion, data centers. He started Efiniti Technology and primarily acted as an owner’s rep for fortune 100 customers who required specialized data centers. He would later move his focus to the Colo market. After working as a consultant for a short time, Bob accepted a role with Equinix. At Equinix, he developed many programs and systems still in use today.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on Friday March 20, 2026. Visitation will start at 12 with the service at 2pm.
