Zia was born to the Ali Mohammed Sobhani and Mahboubeh Sobhani on May 26, 1937. Both her parents were members of the Baháʼí Faith, a global religion that teaches the oneness of humanity and religion that originated in Iran in the nineteenth century. She was born in Semnan, Iran but spent many summers and holidays in nearby Sangsar, where she had family who had lived there for multiple generations. She later moved to Tehran where she worked in banking prior to immigrating to U.S. with her family in 1977. Zia’s greatest joy came from being an active member of the Bahá’í communities in both Ohio and Georgia.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Jamshid Sabouri and sister Molook Tasharofy.
She is survived by her children Kambiz (Shomais) Sabouri and Giti (Thomas) Brown, and four wonderful grandchildren Camillia Brown, Bayan Sabouri, Nabil Brown, and Ruhi Sabouri. She is also survived by her brothers Farhad, Farahmand, Vargha and Farrokh Nooranbakht and sisters Farideh and Flor Nooranbakht.
Her unwavering dedication to serving the Bahá’í faith, supporting her family, and loved ones was an inspiration to us all. She will be missed by many and never forgotten.
