Born in Manila on July 16, 1950, Lina was the youngest of the seven children of Vicente and Ester Jurilla of Kalibo, Aklan. After her early studies in the dramatic arts and and her involvement in Philippine theater, she pursued further studies in psychology and established a psychology and psychometric practice in Manila. She moved to the United States in 1987, continuing her work as a clinical psychologist with the State of California and eventually setting up her private practice in Los Angeles County.
Ever the life of the party, Lina had a personality as colorful and dazzling as her wardrobe and "bling-bling" jewelry. She lived life to the fullest, traveling all around the world, shopping for the best bargains, savoring the most delicious foods, and delighting in the company of her family and friends. Full of cheer, compassion, and love, she was quick to help anyone in need, to listen to the joys and troubles of others, and to sing a song to brighten the day. Her generosity knew no bounds and her thoughtfulness no limits, always remembering to send cards (by snail mail!) for birthdays, anniversaries, and special dates.
She died in the peace and grace of God in Anaheim, California on May 25, 2016. She is survived by her husband Eduardo Pastrana, her children Chris and Vanessa, and Joel and Deana, and her grandchildren Charlize, Natalie, Katherine, Talia, Sela, and Joel Jr.
Rosary and visitation will be held on June 9 and 10, 2016, Thursday and Friday, 5:00 to 9:00 pm at the Queen of Heaven Mortuary, 2161 South Fullerton Road, Rowland Heights, CA. The funeral mass will be held on June 11, Saturday, 10:00 am at the St. Martin de Porres Church, 19767 Yorba Linda Blvd., CA.
