Obituary of Anthony DeFazio
Anthony “Tony” DeFazio passed away peacefully in Mercy General Hospital on August 5, 2022, in Sacramento, California at the age of 90. Anthony is survived by his wife, Shirley and three children, Richard, Debra and Terri of Sacramento: sister Marie Maguire and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Louis, his mother Christina, brothers Louis Jr. "Bull", Jim, Bill, Richard “Scratch” and sisters Margaret Jacobs, Eleanor Hodgkin’s, and Bernadine Thayer. Anthony was born on 12/13/1931 in Sacramento, California to Louis and Christina DeFazio. He graduated from Sacramento High School in 1950. He married Shirley Pompa in 1952. The couple welcomed 3 children. Anthony was a great provider for his family and enjoyed every job he ever had. He drove *Big Rigs* until he landed a great job with Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (later known as ARCO) as a tanker driver for 37 years; a Ferrier (horseshoer) for 64 years and bartender in his younger years, on weekends. Anthony always shared his life with everyone. His children remember him as the hardest worker they’ve ever known who instilled a great work ethic in their lives. Anthony was accomplished at executing anything he put his mind to and could build anything that Shirley needed or wanted. He was a generous/hilarious individual who loved his family and horses. He was the original “Horse Whisperer” and will miss him from the bottom of our hearts. The rosary is scheduled at Nicoletti’s at 7:00 PM on August 22nd, 2022 (5401 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95819) and viewing from 4:00-8:00 PM. The funeral is scheduled for August 23rd, 2022, at 2:00 PM St. Mary’s Catholic Church (58th and M Streets), with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Dante Event Center (2330 Fair Oaks Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95825) scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anthony’s life with his family.
