After their marriage, Barbara and Henry settled in Sacramento, where their first son, Paul, was born. They later moved to the Bay Area as Henry began his career with the State of California, Department of Food and Agriculture. Following the births of their son Allan and daughter Karen, the family relocated to the Diablo Valley, where they lived until 1968 before returning to Sacramento.

During that time, she was also an active member of the State Women’s Club, serving as President in both 1978 and 1980.
A dedicated supporter of youth and community programs, Barbara was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts (now known as Scouting America), serving as a Den Leader, participating in the Women’s Reserve, and receiving the Outstanding Scouters statuette in 1965.

As a member of Menzaleh Temple #16, Daughters of the Nile, she served as Queen in 1996 and remained an active member of the choral group. She loved singing!
