Betty Hinako Matsuura passed away from respiratory failure on February 28, 2024 at the age of 92.
Born on June 26, 1931, Betty spent her formative years on a farm in Loomis, where her love for animals and the outdoors first began. Even into her 90s, Betty could be found outside tending to her garden. She also enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, reading, cooking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Betty's greatest joy was her family, to whom she dedicated her entire life. After raising her three sons, she found immense happiness being with her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She loved babysitting and attending their various activities, from baseball and basketball games to theater arts and gymnastics.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Toshio; sons John (Eulalia), Darrel (Arlene), and Curtis (Julie); grandchildren Nicole (Brian), Ryan (Cori), Robert, Sara (Patrick), Breanne (Bryan), Makaela (Brandon), James, Victoria, Lucas, and Kayla; great-grandchildren Isla, Ryder, and Connor; brother Ed (Yoshiko) Yamashiro; in-laws Takashi Tsujita, Sumi Honda, and LaBelle Matsuura; best friend Jean Kawano; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Hatsumi and Hideko Yamashiro; sister Irene Tsujita; and several in-laws.
A private service was held to honor Betty's life. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, love for her family, and fiery spirit.
