March 26, 1928 – July 16, 2018
Carmella Duane of Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully in her sleep July 16, 2018. She was born and raised in Sacramento and had a total of 7 siblings. Carmella is survived by her daughters, Terri Reynolds, (Bill), Penny Duane, grandson, Bradley Reynolds, (Lauren), and granddaughter Jackie Ranger, (Kevin), sister in law, Gloria Duane, and numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends. Carmella worked at the Crystal Creamery where she met her husband Darrell Duane. Carmella was a true athlete who excelled in ping pong, softball and golf. She won many tournaments along with her sister in law, Arleen Lotta. They were fiercely competitive but truly enjoyed the sportsmanship and comradery that sports provided. Carmella was the last living matriarch of her family and was as Italian as they come. Standing at 4’10”, Carmella was a feisty, tenacious and spunky authority figure. Nobody messed with her family and no one questioned her cooking. She made a fantastic spaghetti and meatballs dinner which her family thoroughly enjoyed every Christmas. Carmella never measured ingredients and just winged it on taste alone. Her minestrone soup would have Emeril Lagasse cry tears of joy. Carmella was tough as nails and battled and beat breast cancer and colon cancer, two life threatening illnesses in midlife. She loved her children and grandchildren to no end and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Carmella was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Darrell (Toby) Duane. She brought joy and laughter to all those who knew her and will be deeply missed. A Graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saturday, July 28th at 11:00am and a celebration of life will be held immediately thereafter at the Dante Club from noon – 3pm.

Carmella was my counterpart in her being mother to Terri, and me being mother to Bill; and both of us being grandmothers to Bradley and Jackie. She was my buddy, even though we lived miles apart. A very nice lady, who was game for anything; forthright, feisty and yet was so sensitive and kind. She fared well to the end of her 90+ years, with grit and tenacity. I will miss her friendship. My condolences to all her family and friends who knew and loved her as I did. With deepest sympathy and sincerity, Carolyn DeBrask

Our deepest sympathies to you and your family for the loss of Carmella. We have many memories of Carmella visiting our home on so many family occasions, from the birth of my daughter to holiday meals and when Carolyn and Marvin were in town, she was always there with a smile on her face and something nice to say. She was such a nice lady, we will miss her.
In this difficult time for you and your family, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
With all our love, LeeAnn and Tom Stewart, Sean and Pauline xoxo
