Born and raised in San Francisco, Carol met the love of her life, Neil, at George Washington High School. They were married for 60 years, and that partnership was the foundation on which Carol built a life of warmth, laughter, and incredible joy.
Carol carried the spirit of San Francisco with her wherever she went: vibrant, warm, and impossible to overlook. She was known for her signature style, a love of all things sparkly, and a purple streak in her hair that announced, without apology, exactly who she was.
As a military spouse, Carol built community wherever her family was called, finding her place through volunteering with the Officers' Wives Club at bases across the country and overseas, and through years of service with Blue Star Moms of Sacramento, where she served as Financial Secretary. She was a woman who showed up and got involved, and never asked for recognition in return.
Her kitchen, her knitting basket, and her card table were all extensions of the same thing: a woman who poured herself into the people she loved. She cooked with generosity, created with patience, and brought that same wholehearted enthusiasm to mah jongg and cards, where she was always in her element. She and Neil saw the world together, taking 32 cruises to destinations across the globe, and she brought that same sense of adventure and joy to everything she did.
Carol worked for many years as a secretary at El Sereno High School, where she was the kind of person students and staff remembered long after they had moved on.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Neil Silk; her daughter, Anne, and son-in-law Marc; her son, Joel, and daughter-in-law Jennifer; and her grandchildren Talia, Aviva, Asher, and Zoe, who were shaped by her generosity in ways they are only beginning to understand. She was a devoted and beloved aunt, and her warmth touched everyone lucky enough to be in her orbit.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 3, at 2:00 pm at Lombard Funeral Home in Sacramento. Burial will follow on Tuesday, May 5, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Carol's memory to the Sacramento Blue Star Moms, National Kidney Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
May her memory be a blessing. Zichronah livrachah.
