Elder Uboma was born in Amichi, Anambra State, Nigeria in 1946 to Emanuel Uboma & Agnes Oranye Uboma, where he shared a bountiful life at his father’s compound to include ten brothers and sisters: Francis Chukwuemeka “Onyenkuzi” Uboma (Brother); Benjamin Ndidi Uboma (Brother); Grace Ego Obi “Nee” Uboma (Sister); Godson Uboma (Brother); Joy Uboma (Stepsister); Edwin Uboma (Stepbrother); Amaka Uboma (Stepsister); Samuel Uboma (Stepbrother); Christian Uboma (Stepbrother); Ugochukwu Uboma (Stepbrother); Ifeoma Uboma (Stepsister).
Elder Uboma was a proud self-declared “mama’s-boy”. He enjoyed his studies, tended to family livestock and admired his brothers and immediate little sister, Grace for their independent character traits and personal attributes. In his early formative years, he left the safety of home to fight in the Nigerian Biafran War. His witness to the mass genocide of fellow Nigerians made an indelible mark on his consciousness, prompting him to seek peace, justice and resolution instead of turmoil and divisiveness.
Elder Uboma left Nigeria in the late 1960’s for France, living in Paris and Lyon where he found refuge with The Catholic Church. He tended to sheep for daily provision and studied daily to attain an American visa in hopes of entering the United States of America. God answered his prayers! Elder Uboma was granted a visa to study Math, Economics, and Finance in the U.S., where he made San Francisco his home. While working as a busboy, bank teller and taxicab driver he met the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Judisene “Judy” Franklin Uboma. Two months later they were married at Third Baptist Church in San Francisco, where Elder Jessie Grant gave Judy’s hand in marriage to Elder Uboma as her Spiritual Godfather in the Lord.
Three years later, on January 26, 1977, the proud wedded parents welcomed their firstborn and only son, Christopher Curtis “Chidi” Uboma Jr. Five years later, on May 4, 1982, they welcomed their one and only darling princess Agnes Ngozi Uboma, affectionately named after her grandmother, Agnes Oranye Uboma.
Elder Uboma raised his family under the protection of Jesus Christ, surrendering ultimate authority to the Lord, and petitioning for the Holy Spirit to fill his mind, body, soul, finance, marriage and household. Provision was aided by the educational attainment of his MBA and Master’s in Banking and Finance, affording him to lead as head of the household financially. He delighted in sending his wife and daughter shopping - most likely so that he could watch the news, WWF wrestling and listen to African music in peace. A quiet man at home, he was, except for when on the phone to anyone who spoke Igbo!
On June 18, 2010, he became a proud Papa to Christopher Kaiden Uboma, followed by the birth of his witty second-born grandson, Korey Christian Uboma on July 18, 2013. The Uboma Family flourished under his leadership. Shortly thereafter, his son, Chris Jr. proudly announced that he’d purchased his parents a home in the countryside on Plumas Lake. What an honor it was for an immigrant’s son to purchase their father another home. Elder Uboma thanked God for his son daily as his daughter in love, Jodi often spoiled him during family holidays and whenever she could sneak him a tasty treat that was not a part of his medically supervised menu! Following a lengthy physical rehabilitation stay in Sacramento, Elder Uboma’s daughter, Agnes surprised Elder Uboma with another home purchased near his Anambra friends and medical facilities. He left the rehabilitation center and walked into his new home purchased by the daughter of a Nigerian immigrant. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! My children are blessed, my grandchildren are blessed. What a mighty God I serve, he’d often declare.
Elder Uboma departed this earth to join his beloved parents, siblings and beloved nephews Albade and Obidiah Taylor whom he loved dearly until their untimely demise in 2000.
Well done son, brother, husband, father, papa, friend - thy good and faithful servant. Elder Uboma’s living was not in vain.
