Evan Nossoff, age 68, died in Sacramento of a brief illness. Evan was born in Los Angeles, grew up and attended elementary school, junior high school, and Pioneer High School in Whittier, California. He was granted early admission to UCLA as a result of his participation in the National Science Foundation’s summer program in Orbital Mechanics held at the Thacher School in Ojai, California. Subsequently, Evan graduated from California State University at Los Angeles.
Evan’s careers and avocations included a wide range of interests and competencies: the political campaigns of Congressman George Brown, public information officer and spokesperson to the press for various State of California agencies including Water Resources, California Museum of Science and Industry, Fish & Game, and most recently, Department of Motor Vehicles. Most interesting was his commitment to improvisational theater and drama productions, as an actor, director, and coach in the vibrant theatre community of Sacramento. Notable was his acting in Talley’s Folly and his direction of Going to See the Elephant, Our Town, and Vagina Monologues (‼!). Evan earned a great number of points over the years as a highly respected tournament duplicate Bridge competitor. He also won a number of awards as a volunteer environmentalist, including one from Save the Santa Monica Bay. Evan also loved visiting the State of Alaska and fishing for salmon and halibut there – quite successfully.
Evan leaves and will be missed by his brother, Joel Nossoff (Nancy Rouse Nossoff), sister, Nadina Cole-Potter (Thomas Potter), nephew Joshua Cole (Karen Campbell Cole), and grand niece and nephew, Ashlyn and Benjamin Cole and 10 first cousins. A memorial service is planned for extended family and friends in the Los Angeles (Pasadena) area on December 7 at 2:30 PM. For specific time and place, email: [email protected].
