Forrest Plant is a major reason I became an attorney, he was our family attorney and was the President of the California Bar Association (ie a mentor)when we met at his corner office downtown (I was impressed) and discussed what it would be like to go to law school and become an attorney. Sorry to hear of the loss of Forrest. I have nothing but great memories of him. A very humble man who always made me laugh when I was over at the house. He always treated me with respect. As a good friend of Mr. Plant's son Brian since the two of us were in first grade (and continuing today), I first met Mr. Plant when I was about seven years old. He and his wife Shirley were always very kind to me as a little boy, and they continued to be kind and tolerant of youthful male antics as Brian and I grew up together. They even took the time to attend my wedding in 1983, when Brian and I were 24 years old. By the time Brian and I had become students and roommates together at UC Berkeley (the alma mater of all four of our parents), Mr.  Plant had become a kind of role model for me  though I was hardly lacking for role models, as my own parents were great role models too. He was one of the UC Regents at the time, and had recently been the President of the State Bar. I came to realize that, in addition to being Brian's very nice father, Mr. Plant was a giant in the Sacramento and statewide legal community, as well as the greater UC Berkeley community. Despite his extremely impressive accomplishments, however, I never detected any of the negative personality traits that often accompany such success, such as pride or a lack of modesty. Far from it, he had none of those traits, but was always kind, thoughtful, and down to earth in my dealings with him (which became rare in recent decades). The older I get, the more I am impressed with such character, and the less impressed I am with people who have great success but are spoiled by it. He was not. I feel very privileged to have known him from my unique vantage point, and I wish the very best for Mrs. Plant and her extended family, including Brian, his wife Suzanne, and their kids.

I had the privilege of working with Forrest, Sr. from 1988 until he more recently retired from the practice of law. Forrest was a gentle man, wise beyond words, and who served as the ideal example of who a lawyer should be in society.  He was the "lawyer's lawyer".  I have nothing but fond memories of Forrest, and I am grateful that he leaves us with memories of his wise counsel, his smile and wit, and his son, Forrest, Jr. with whom I still work on a daily basis.  I know that Shirley and the entire Plant family will miss him daily.  Blessings to you all, from Melinda Guzman and family.
