Gary Alan Drake

March 4, 1954February 1, 2020

Gary Alan Drake of Sacramento, CA passed away February 1, 2020 at the age of 65.

Gary was born on March 4, 1954 in Woodbury, New Jersey to his parents Grover and Anna Drake. In 1974, Gary enlisted into the Air Force and served until 1988. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, where he met Elane Silvia. In 1977 Gary and Elane were married. In 1979 they had their first son, Shaun Drake, followed by their second son, Corey Drake, who was born in 1981.

Gary's greatest joys in life were his two sons. He thought of them first and everything came after. As Shaun and Corey grew up and moved out, he found Mark Weatherby, whom he loved. They supported each other for 12 years until his passing.

He found his next love in life when his grandsons, Jaxson and Grant, were born. He had another round of spoiling his "boys", giving them all the love he could.

For the people that knew him, he shared his generosity and authenticity. He was never short on a conversation. For better or worse, he said what was on his mind. From the very beginning, you would know who Gary Drake was. Gary is survived by; his partner Mark Weatherby; sons Shaun Drake and Corey Drake (Lauryn Drake); and grandsons Jaxson Drake and Grant Drake.

A memorial service for Gary will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lombard Funeral Home.

It was good to see how much Gary loved his grandsons. After Corey and family moved to Oklahoma, Gary would spend hours on Skype watching them open Christmas presents. He was delighted whenever he had the chance to talk with them.

A memory both Gary and I shared many times when we talked on the phone was the time I let my "little" brother sit on my lap and steer my car. He was just so happy.

On behalf of Gary's siblings we want to thank Mark for the care and love he showed our brother. Gary mentioned many times how good Mark was to him. Thank you.

I know with the family so spread out around the country we don't get to see each other as much as we would like; but that does not mean we are not thinking of each other or love one another.

I am certain Gary's sister, Marsha, will be surprised and happy to see him again.

Love you brother,
Your big sister, Carole
