

George Passed away on April 13, 2012 at age 87. Born in the small coal mining town of West Hiawatha, Utah to Greek immigrants Pete and Andriani (Protopapadakis) Lionakis. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a navigator in the Pacific theater during World War II and graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in architecture.
In 1951 he married Iva Oree Braddock and they have one child, Deborah (Lionakis) Meyer. George joined the firm of Cox, Liske and Associates in 1954, became a full partner in 1967, and General Manager of Liske, Lionakis, Beaumount and Engberg (LLBE) in 1977, later known as Lionakis-Beaumount Design Group (LBDG), and in 2009 renamed Lionakis. George retired in 1991, but remained active in volunteer construction consultation for such projects as the remodel of Northridge Country Club and the construction of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church. He served as President of the Sacramento Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, 1962; the Central Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, 1972; the Sacramento Builders' Exchange, 1976; East Sacramento Rotary Club, 1978-79; and Northridge Country Club, 1987.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law Greg Meyer, grandsons Ryan, Andrew, and Quinn, sister Mary (Nick) Nichols, brother John (Rose) Lionakis, sister Vera (Fred) Pagel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome for visitation Thursday, April 19th from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. and to attend a Trisagion Service at 7:00 P.M. at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd. Sacramento, 451-7284. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 9165 Peets St., Elk Grove. Interment, East Lawn Sierra Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, or Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
