George Leo Pattalock died peacefully on Monday April 10 th , 2023, in Sacramento, California at the age of 87 with his loving family holding him in their arms as he was called home to join his wife Marilyn Sue
Pattalock (95’).
George is survived by his sister Della Quarisa, his two children, and 3 grandchildren. His two children are his son Donald A Pattalock of Reno, Nevada and his daughter, Lynne Pattalock-Barker of Sacramento, California. He has three extraordinary grandchildren who he was so proud of and loved dearly: Mason LaFond (24), Addison Pattalock (17), and Alexander Pattalock (13). George was incredibly happy that his children found loving partners with his son-in-law Shane Barker and Don’s partner Dr. Tara Prokop. George also shared the last 28 years with his adoring companion Lilly Wong. He is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his father Alexander, mother Igenia, and sisters Johna and Sandra.
George was born on June 12 th , 1935, in Susanville, California. Born to immigrants from Giornico, Switzerland who instilled wonderful family values and an undeniable work ethic. Although his father came to the United States as with barely anything; George worked very hard to gain an education, live a good life, and provide for his family to honor the sacrifices and hard work of his parents.
After graduating from Lassen High School, George enlisted in the United States Army. George attended California State University, Chico on the GI Bill and graduated with a master’s degree in industrial education. George became an industrial arts teacher starting his career off at Will C Wood Junior High School in Sacramento. He retired as a beloved teacher after 33 years from CK McClatchy High School teaching classes in the subjects that he loved: woodshop, metals, drafting, and mathematics. He married his beautiful wife Marilyn in Sacramento December 28 th , 1966, and the couple welcomed two children into their home. George set about teaching them how to fix anything, gave them the love of travel with summers filled with camping trips, and to always “take an extra five minutes and enjoy the outdoors”. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a huge soft spot for his four-legged friends. His children remember him as a patient and kind father who was their hero in so many ways. George always encouraged them to be their best, to honor family, and take pride in all the things they do. George provided the heart and home for all he loved.
George was an accomplished craftsman and an expert with tools. His expertise was not just in working with the tools he loved, but also knowing what even the most obscure tool was used for. He was a living- breathing tool encyclopedia. He loved to dabble in antique tools, projects around the house, working with metals and art projects, and holding tool sales; George was the guy everyone came to with questions. George was known for making handcrafted duck calls and beautiful carved wooden decoys both for art as well as for hunting. George was the neighbor everyone loved and you could always find him working in his garage with lots of dog treats ready for the pups and a friendly conversation for all who stopped in. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. George left an everlasting impression on our hearts. All are welcome to the viewing that is scheduled for Thursday 4/20/23 from 3-7pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger 5401 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento CA 95819. A celebration of life will be held in the coming months for our out-of-town family, his friends, neighbors, colleagues, and previous students. George will be buried alongside his wife at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Simon from Sacred Heart Church officiating.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers, physicians, and friends who have been there for George and our family.
