Notch was born in 1923 and spent his entire life in his beloved Sacramento. He attended Sac High before serving in the Coast Guard on the Marshall Islands during World War II. Notch married the love of his life, Connie Sanchez Parino, in 1950, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage. He delivered parcel post in downtown Sacramento for 35 years; was commissioner of the Sacramento Umpire Association; and a stalwart figure at All Hallows’ Catholic Church, especially through the Italian Catholic Federation. He was always active, playing shortstop in the Golden Seniors Softball League until he was 88, and golfing well into his 90's.
Through all his connections, Notch seemed to know everyone in Sacramento, and everyone who knew him loved him. He is survived by his sons Nick and Sam, daughter-in-law Mari, and grandchildren Daniel, Caitlin, Nicholas, Joseph, and Isabel, all of whom feel his loss dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 4 at 10am at St. Mary’s cemetery to be followed by a reception at All Hallows’ Church hall. All are welcome to attend the service and/or reception following.
