Jeff Garcia was born March 31, 1952 to Jesus and Andrea Garcia in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated from high school and started college there but decided he wanted to join the Air Force. He served our country in Vietnam and many other locations. He began his family counseling career while in the Air Force and kept that up his entire life.
His love of music began as a boy and got stronger throughout his life. In fact, when he retired, he started taking drum lessons. He enjoyed karaoke as many people in Sacramento know. One of his "bucket list" items was to sing with a professional group and he did. At his birthday party, he sang with Malo and he treasured that memory.
He enjoyed all sports but especially baseball, table tennis, and fishing. He found that he loved coaching baseball and spent many years with his son, Salvador, playing baseball and attending baseball training camps. He coached kids from T-Ball to college and loved every minute of it. He even switched to softball and coached the Liberty Ladies to win the tournament. He loved to play table tennis and represented the Air Force in the United States and internationally. In the Philippines, he had the opportunity to play the 17th best world wide player. Fishing was a peaceful hobby for him and he enjoyed fishing with just about anyone. It was also his time for quiet solitude and reflection.
He was politically active since meeting with Cesar Chavez and supported the Brown Berets. He maintained the highest respect for his Native American heritage from both sides of his family. He always stood up for his beliefs and encouraged other to do the same.
His passions in life were God, family, and giving to others whether as a husband, a father, a coach, a co-worker, or a complete stranger. He was generous, giving, and encouraging. He was always learning. In fact, after he retired he returned to college to get a second degree in photography and was pursuing that hobby in learning new techniques. He had a natural eye for a good picture and it is reflected in his work.
He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth and his children Salvador, Vinas, and Sonja, five grandchildren, and many friends he made along his way.
