

Jerry was a Sacramento native, born January 24, 1935. He passed away peacefully on June 1, 2015 with family by his side. The youngest of seven children, he was preceded in death by parents, Seraphine “Chip” and Ethel Sarmento, brothers Alvin and Paul and sister Eileen Zuccaro. Surviving siblings are Brothers Tom and Ed and sister Wilma Roe. Jerry grew up on 23rd and D Street in midtown and stayed in contact with many friends from the neighborhood near Ed Smiths Garage.
Jerry is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Marlene, his three children, Darrell (Regina), Jill (Paul) Manzo and Mark, and grandchildren Cherish, Isiah, Elijah, Ava and Jack, and was a great grandfather to Elizabeth.
Jerry attended local schools, Marshall, Sutter and Sacramento High School. He served in the Army from 1953-1956 and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. He had a successful career at Aeorjet for 42 years before retiring in 1999. He worked in the Liquid Propulsion division as a Quality Engineer. Career highlights included working on the Titan Missile Program and witnessing several launches.
Jerry and Marlene enjoyed their trips to Maui and many cruises. Happy family times were spent at their cabin in South Lake Tahoe. An avid fisherman, golfer, gardener and sports fan. He shared season tickets to the River Cats with his brothers since their first season in 2000. Jerry and his brothers hosted an annual Sarmento Brothers Christmas Luncheon at the Buggy Whip for over 25 years. He looked forward to lunches with The Over The Hill Gang, Seniors in Retirement #117 and golf club outings.
He was a proud and dedicated grandfather attending all of their activities and sporting events. Other interest included playing fantasy football, listening to jazz and Sinatra records and having lunch with his brothers every Friday.
