Josephine (Jo) C. McNeil, aged 88, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014. Jo was a devoted daughter to Phillip and Antonia Fenech, proud and hard working immigrants from Malta. Jo shared her love of heritage with her sister Mary, and delighted in introducing her as "my older sister" a loving comradiere the sisters shared.
Jo shared 60 years of marriage with husband George Edward who passed in November 2010. Her loss of George, the love of her life, hastened her decline. She passed quietly from Lewy Body Dementia.
Jo's career choices included the Corp of Engineers and Bank of America. Jo and and George were the proud parents of one son Danny. The close bond between parent and child was doubled with the births of their two grandchildren Michelle and Phillip. From the onset Grandma McNeil participated in their lives. She taught them her faith in God, importance of the family, helping others in need, and honesty in everything pursued. Along with these life long lessons Grandma McNeil enjoyed having fun with the children. She read endless stories, played games, and enjoyed cooking with, and for them. She jumped rope with Michelle and rode bikes with Phillip. She lived to see both Grandchildren succeed.
Along with son Danny (Debra), Michelle (Kevin), Phillip (Rain), Jo is survived by beloved sister Mary, niece Marilyn (Mike) and their children Jeff and Stephanie (Rob).
The family would like to thank Sunrise Memory Care of Carmichael for the remarkable are Jo received. The life of Jo McNeil would not be complete without mentioning the friendships she shared through out her life. Although many, Jo cherished the love of Joan Barsanti. They shared careers, life's ups and downs, and loyalty to each other. We are blessed Joan remains a part of our lives as she was Jo's.
Many years before her illness Jo talked often of when, not if, she would have a Great-Grandchild. She lovingly knit baby blankets. She tucked them away with notes 'for my great-grandchild'. On January 25, 2014, Josephine C. McNeil received her cherished Great-Granddaughter Jaclyn Grace McNeil.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Saturday, February 8 from 9:00am-10:30am at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd, in Sacramento, with a funeral to follow thereafter at 10:30am.
