Lois Kasikukuru Kyawe Okumu, born on December 25, 1942 to parents Sarah Kobusingye and Alfred Kyawe in Ndaija, Rwampala, Mbrarara District in Uganda, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 26, 2017. Trained as a teacher, at Bishop Stuart College, she went on to open a successful pre-Kindergarten in Kampala in the early 1970s that served over 200 children and their families. In 1979, Lois bravely left her country with six young children to provide a better life for them in the United States. She attended bible school at Trinity Bible College and felt a calling by God to serve as a missionary in the United States. She became an ordained preacher in her adopted home and it was her passion to talk to people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever she went. Lois was a compassionate and fervent prayer warrior often spending hours praying for the needs of others. She was an educator, pastor, confidant, protector, champion, cheerleader and always an authentic presence in the lives of anyone she encountered.
Lois is survived by her sons Michael Munabi and Kris Okumu, married to Monica Bucci, and her daughters Grace Okumu, married to Ekow Bannerman, Sarah Okumu, Lucy Okumu and Anna Okumu married to Jeremy MacVeigh and her grandson Solomon Bannerman.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that Lois' friends support her passion for education and children.
