

Manuel is survived by his wife of 37 years, Maricela Roman; his children, Marcy (James) Ronyak, Johanna (Derek) Bays, and Manuel (Vanessa) Roman; his grandchildren, Shawnee and Aristotle Ronyak, Emilia and Vivienne Bays, and Penelope Roman; and his siblings, Frank Roman and Ruth McHugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Betty Jo Corro and Edward Roman.
Manuel was born on December 22, 1947, in Benson, Arizona to Manuel A. Roman and Ophelia Roman. He was a dedicated and resilient man known for his unwavering work ethic, profound intellect, and honorable service to his country. He served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1968 to 1971, including his service in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. He later went out to pursue a higher education and received his Doctorate in Education from the University of San Francisco in 1993. He also worked over 30 years for the State of California under various departments. He was a beloved professor at several colleges, focusing on a variety of professional fields for over 40 years.
He was a loving, caring, and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother to the family. He was always light-hearted and could be a bit of a jokester, but he also knew when to step up to the plate when his leadership and guidance were needed.
A visitation will be held at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home on July 31st, 2024 at 4041 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822 from 1-4 pm and Rosary from 4-5 pm. Mass is scheduled for August 1st, 2024 at 11 am at St. Anthony Parish, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA 95831. Burial will occur at 1 pm at the St. Mary’s Cemetery & Funeral Center, 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento CA 95820.
