Born in French Morocco, Marie Levander, nee Elkaim, became a war bride when she married Edwin Allen and moved to North Highlands, CA., where they ran the Bel Air Restaurant for several years. With Edwin's sponsorship, she gradually brought over her mother, three brothers, and youngest sister. Marie taught at Sacramento Country Day School, worked at McClellan Field and retired from the Department of Justice. Marie was active in Hadassah, Women's League, volunteered in the Jewish community, and was a member of Mosaic Law Congregation for more than 70 years, and was a devout Zionist. She passed away at age 95 on March 21, 2018 and is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gilbert Levander, daughters Estreilla Allen and Faye Jonason, sister Suzanne Corbett, grandchildren Brian Jonason and Laura Arias, and numerous nieces and nephews in the USA and Israel. Marie had a wonderful green thumb, a flair for beautiful decoration, loved to dance and travel but valued family above all.
Services will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 1 p.m, at Home of Peace, 6200 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento.
