

In Loving Memory of Mary Lee Nelson, age 84, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on February 17, 2026, in Elk Grove, California. Born in Louisiana, Mary carried the warmth, strength, and deep-rooted faith of the South with her throughout her life.
A devoted Christian woman, Mary led with faith, love, and unwavering care for others. She was prayerful, and generous. Her life was a reflection of service, resilience, and strength.
Mary completed her high school education and went on to build a meaningful career as a childcare provider, running her own childcare business for decades. Through her work, she nurtured and shaped the lives of countless children, offering not just supervision, but love, structure, and encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Nelson; her sons, Nathanial Bowden Jr. and Philip Levy; her parents, Merzie Beroit and Melvin Lartigue; and her siblings, Shirley Taylor and Clifford Beroit.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Trisha Dillard and her husband, Ken Dillard; Norman Oliver, Davon Nelson (Destiny); Dominique Nelson; and Bernard James “BJ” Nelson. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Laura Chavez-Levy.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, great-and great-great-grandchildren each of whom brought her immense joy.
Mary’s love for her family was steadfast. She believed deeply in the power of prayer, the importance of family, and the calling to care for others. Her presence was comforting, her faith was strong, and her home was always open.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Nicoletti’s. Mary will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose, California at a later date.
Though she has departed this earthly life, her love, faith, and nurturing spirit remain woven into the generations she leaves behind.
