Norma (Mazzier) Cappello passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024. Her greatest joy was being Nonna to her six grandsons: James (Stephanie) and Jonathan (Cindy) Kilton, Justin (Giana) and Garrett (Liz) Cappello, and Carson (Stephanie) and Grant (Brenna) Dangberg. And Bisnonna to her great granddaughter Ivy Kilton. She was a fiercely devoted mother to her children Mark Cappello (Susan), Lori Dangberg (John) and Lynette Kilton (deceased). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Victor Cappello; and is survived by her brother Lave Mazzier (Nancy).
Born in Weed, CA on August 19, 1931 to Ernesto and Linda Mazzier, she was a force of nature throughout her almost 93 years of life. She worked for over 28 years as the first executive secretary of the California Conference of Catholic Bishops. She was a dedicated member of her community and her church.
She found most joy in her kitchen cooking for her family at weekly Sunday dinners – authoring a “Sunday Dinner” cookbook with family recipes – and hosting her friends serving her favorite Italian dishes. She remained very active, until recently, with golfing, playing cards and outings with friends. She was true and reliable in her many decades of numerous friendships.
All are welcome to the funeral Mass on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church – 660 Florin Road, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions can be sent to your charity of choice.
