Born October 9, 1942 in Fresno County, Paul departed us on March 13, 2015 for a more peaceful place, leaving his wife of 40 years, Kathy Flynn of Sacramento and sons, Devin, Peter, and Timothy of Sacramento. He is also survived by his brother Steve of Rocklin, and sisters, Barbara of Woodland and Michael of Mount Shasta, daughter-in-law’s Lori, Carrie, and Elaina, and beloved grandchildren Jackson, Aly, Ella, Nora, and Harper, as well as a large extended family in Sacramento, Davis, and Woodland. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Pop,” and mother, Trudie. Paul grew up in Davis where he made lifelong bonds with friends that he remained in contact with until the day he passed. After graduating from Sacramento State University, Paul began a 33-year career with the Sacramento Children’s Home, where he worked in various positions from child care worker to fund development to facilities management. After retiring from the Children’s Home, Paul continued to dedicate his life to working in the interests of children, joining the staff of the Sacramento Receiving Home, where he was employed until his death. Paul was a fixture in East Sacramento, where he and Kathy lived for over 40 years. Whether it be coaching his sons’ sports teams, taking care of his grandchildren, playing golf with friends, rooting on the Giants, or traveling to Europe with his wife, Paul lived his life to the fullest and was known throughout the community for his infectious personality and incredible sense of humor. A service to recognize and celebrate Paul’s life and contributions will take place on Thursday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Church, 1112 26th St. in Sacramento. A celebration will be held afterwards at the Sacramento Newman Center, 5900 Newman Ct., directly following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any remembrances in Paul’s name be made to local charities such as the Sacramento Diocese Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry, Sacramento Children’s or Receiving Home, or a charity of your choice.
