and sportsmanship. Rodney was the cherished son of Ruth and K.N. Yung. In 1954, he moved to
the United States with his mother, Ruth, his older brother David, and his younger sister Pam,
marking the beginning of a journey that would profoundly impact the lives of many people.
Rodney graduated from Sacramento High School in the middle of the 1959-1960 school year,
where he earned an All-City honor in basketball. In 1963, he met Beverly Fong at a burger shop
near McClatchy High School, sparking an enduring romance that would last until his final days.
On May 14, 1967, they were married at the Chinese Community Church, beginning a beautiful
56-year journey as husband and wife. Together, they welcomed two sons: Eric, in 1972, and
Brandon, in 1974, both of whom brought Rodney immense pride and joy.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Rodney was a founding member of the Sacramento Warlords
Basketball Organization and the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation. His dedication to
fostering sportsmanship and community spirit left an incredible mark. In addition to basketball,
Rodney was an avid golfer and cherished the many trips he took with Beverly and friends,
creating treasured memories both on and off the course.
Rodney will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family
and friends. His legacy lives on through his sons, Eric and Brandon, his grandchildren, nieces
and nephews, and the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Rodney's life will be held on April 25, 2025, at the Sacramento Asian Sports
Foundation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your
choice in his honor.
