It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald "Ron" Ricci, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on November 15, 2024. Born on April 8, 1936, in Davis, California, Ron grew up in a town he loved deeply, shaping the foundation of his adventurous and generous spirit.
A graduate of Davis High School in 1954, Ron served as student body president, setting the stage for a life of leadership and camaraderie. He continued his education at San Jose State University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
In 1959, Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army, demonstrating such exceptional dedication and skill that he earned an all-expense-paid "tour" to Korea, serving with the 44th Engineering Battalion until 1961. His time in service was a testament to his resilience and commitment.
On February 16, 1963, Ron married the love of his life, Anita Alonso. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising two sons, Randy and Robert, who, along with Ron's six grandchildren, were the pride of his life.
Ron’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Westland Mortgage, which he successfully sold in 1984. This accomplishment allowed him to dedicate more time to his passions, many of which were deeply rooted in the great outdoors.
An avid outdoorsman, Ron’s early years were spent enjoying the beauty of Lake Tahoe, transitioning later to a love of fishing, hunting, and golf. His hunting adventures took him across the western United States and Alaska, where he pursued deer, elk, and sheep. Golf also held a special place in his heart, and he was a proud member of North Ridge Country Club and Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, as well as Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs.
Ron’s greatest passion, however, was duck hunting. During the season, he could be found in the Butte Sink 5 to 6 days a week, immersing himself in the sport he loved most. He was a member of the Robert Stacks, West Butte, Swanston Farms, and Glide Ranch duck clubs.
Known for his culinary skills, Ron had a knack for creating delicious dishes, with his legendary waffles becoming a family favorite—light enough to "float away" unless anchored with butter, as he humorously claimed.
Above all, Ron was known and loved for his generosity, humor, and zest for life. He touched countless lives with his warmth and wit, leaving behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Anita, his sons Randy and Robert, and his six grandchildren. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Ron. Your laughter, kindness, and adventurous spirit will never be forgotten.
