Sergay Garo Ivazian

Sergay was born in Worchester, Massachusetts to Grace and Aghasi (Ivy) Ivazian. The family moved to Sacramento and Sergay spent summers visiting his grandparents in San Francisco. He attended Fruitridge Elementary School, CK McClatchy High School and Sacramento City College.

He joined the army in 1959 and was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life, Marion (Rosemarie). She worked at the Café Dinges in Mainz and he lived in an apartment above the café. They were soon wed and moved to Sacramento where they started a family.

Sergay worked for Cal Trans in the Outdoor Advertising department for many years before transferring to the Budgets division. Throughout his career he made many dear friends that he and Marion still have to this day.

He lived a full life and loved the outdoors. His favorite activities were fishing, camping, hiking and golfing. He was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed trips to Germany, France and within the United States. Locally, he was a member of the Roseville Elks, SIRS golf program and enjoyed attending the Music Circus in Sacramento from the early days when the performances were held in a tent.

He loved his family deeply and many of us sought out his insightful advice over the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aghasi (Ivy) and Grace Ivazian and sister, Adrian Arbogast. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Marion (Rosemarie) Ivazian, daughter Anna Lisa Woodrow and son-in-law Andrew, daughter Marina Miller and son-in-law Bob, brother Gregory Ivazian and sister-in-law Darlene and brother David Ivazian and sister-in-law Betsy. He also has extended family in Germany as well as the United States.

Funeral services will be held on September 11 at 9:00 a.m. at Harry A. Nauman & Son, 4041 Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento, California. Sergay’s faith was very important to him and he was a proud member of the St. James Armenian Church.
