Stephen Benson Clazie

Steve grew up in Vallejo, California, where he graduated from Vallejo High School. His family’s roots in the community ran deep; during World War II, his father worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

After high school, Steve attended Sacramento State, where he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees and prepared for a career devoted to education. He taught at John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento, where he also served as faculty advisor for the school yearbook. Later, he continued his career at California Middle School as a librarian, sharing his love of learning with generations of students.

Vallejo also played an important part in Steve’s love story. He and his wife both grew up there, graduated from Vallejo High School, and later attended Sacramento State. They married in 1965 and began their life together with a honeymoon at Disneyland and Lake Tahoe. Their marriage laid the foundation for a lifetime of shared memories.

Steve is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Kinder and Karyn Clazie, and his grandsons, Jonathan Denison, Kyle Denison, and Shane Denison.

Of all the things Steve accomplished during his life, those who knew him may remember him best for something much simpler: he loved to tell a story. He could talk to just about anyone, and he always seemed to have a story to share.

Steve leaves behind a legacy as an educator, a father, a grandfather, and a storyteller. His family will miss his voice, his stories, and simply knowing that he was there.
