
Born Assunta Albina Girolami on June 11, 1913 in San Francisco, California, she was the oldest of five siblings. Her parents, Giuseppe Girolami and Cesira Ragghianti Girolami, were Italian immigrants who farmed and later operated a gas station and bar on Sherman Island in the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta.
She married Nello Giusti in 1936 and moved to Sacramento, eventually purchasing their home on Marshall Way where they lived for over sixty years.
Susie worked at Allen’s Garage as a bookkeeper and later for the State of California, Department of Motor Vehicles, until her retirement in 1977. She was an avid reader, book collector, artist, an excellent Italian cook, an accomplished crocheter, and a doting grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband Nello, parents, and her four siblings Valente, Ida, Lora, and Guido.
Susie is survived by son Donald (Shirley) of Sacramento, granddaughters Gabrielle Kennedy (Byron) of Sacramento and Courtney Castro (Andrew) of Orange, CA and great grandchildren Carson Castro and Corrina Castro. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3159 Land Park Drive, Sacramento, on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 am. A reception to follow at Sierra 2 Community Center, Curtis Hall, 2791 24th Street, Sacramento.
