Before dawn on 3 April 2021 Rosalea Mae “Rose” Sommerville, 87, of Hurricane arose from her bed, quietly kissed two children asleep at her feet, and left for a better place.

She was born 30 December 1933 on Butcher’s Fork in Lewis County, the eldest daughter of Charles David Edward and Lilly Melvina Queen Hefner. She was a member of the Weston High School Class of 1954. She was wed to the late Robert Wesley Sommerville II and raised two children, Troy Donald Sommerville and Diana Dawn Sommerville Bennett, both of Hurricane. She has two grandchildren, Jeffrey Ryan Bennett (Savannah) and Talina Dawn Bennett Darquenne (Jimmy), and five great-grandchildren, Sy James, Kiara, Alaina, Lilly, and London all of Good Hope.

Rose’s steely determination in the face of challenge, her fearless stance in support of the people and values she held dear, her uncompromising grit when hard work was in order, and the open-minded grace with which she weighed the human condition is an example for us all.

Gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Pat Boyle Funeral Home, Jane Lew from 4 to 7 p.m.

Celebration of Rose’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 9, 2021 at Pat Boyle Funeral Home with Mr. Michael Griffith presiding. Rose will be laid to rest in Sommerville Family Cemetery, Lost Creek.

I met Rosalea more than 10 years ago through the WV DHHR. I was her worker. She instantly stole my heart. We spoke frequently even though it was rare that she actually needed assistance. She was one of my favorites for sure. I only met her in person a couple of times and she was exactly as I pictured her. She had such a sweet soul. I visited her after her stroke and she didn't know me but she kept saying "I just love that Kimberly. Do you know her?" And I absolutely loved her right back. Prayers for comfort and peace for her family.

To the family of "Rose", sincere condolences. Rose has certainly left behind a world filled with turmoil, however know that very soon, the prospect of everlasting life will become a reality. Rose knew how frail the human life is, but she was also aware of the purpose of mankind's Creator, Jehovah, to grant humans everlasting life on a paradise earth, in the very near future.
So take courage and be strong as Rose was, look forward to better times. Once again, sincere condolences.
Kind regards
Yvette del Pino
