Roy L. Downey, 92, of St. Albans, went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born November 22, 1925 in South Charleston, the son of Roy and Mabel Kapp Downey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice L. Downey, son, James “Jimbo”, sister, Wilma, and brothers, Jerry and Everett Downey. Roy was retired from FMC. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII. Roy was a Christian. He loved to work, cook and camp in Greenbrier County at Blue Bend. He especially loved cooking Thanksgiving dinner for his family. Roy was a devoted husband, loving father and cherished grandfather, and brother. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by sons, David (Polly) and Scott (Becky), all of St. Albans, grandchildren, Margie, Matt, Heather, Sarah, Emily, Jenny, and Andy, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and brother, Charles (Mae), of St. Albans. The family would like to thank everyone at Hospice, Beth, Agnes, and his nurse Lynese for the exceptional care they provided. Celebration of Roy’s life will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73. I well remember the time that Lee Roy was saved at Bethany Baptist in St Albans in the 1970s. For a time I was privileged to be his pastor. He was/is a dear brother.
