Stanley Duval Smith
March 7, 1922 – January 26, 2019
Stanley Duval Smith Sr., 96, of Tornado, formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at home in Tornado, W.Va.
Born to Manzo Franklin Smith and Jennie Babb Smith on March 7, 1922, Stanley grew up in St. Elmo, Tenn., and was a graduate of City High School. He served in World War II on the European front in the Army Signal Corps. After the war, he graduated with an electrical engineering degree from Colorado State University. He was employed by Tennessee Valley Authority as a Senior Engineering Manager for the Power Division for several years until his retirement. After his retirement from TVA, he worked for FEMA for over 10 years. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church in Chattanooga and The Crossing Church in St. Albans, W.Va. He did volunteer work for Messianic Ministry to Israel and for HACOBA care facilities. He was a loving father, grandfather, great - grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Stanley is survived by his son, Pastor Stan Smith Jr. and his wife Karen of Tornado, with whom he resided for the past 12 years; his daughter, Sally Lawson and her husband Kim of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; grandchildren, Hollie (Haskell) Shelton, Jill (Nick) Jitima, Zech (Janine) Smith, Jason (Amanda) Smith, Meg (Juan) Arboleda, Kelsea (Luke) Whitworth, Gavin Smith, Lilly Smith, Zoe Smith, Daniel Lawson, Jonathon Lawson, Josh Lawson, Anna Lawson and Nathan Lawson; great - grandchildren, Camden, Penley, Sam, Isaiah, Micah, Eden, Max, Leo, Jad, Damien and Jude; his sister, Barbara Wynette Smith Holt of Chattanooga; and many nieces and nephews, friends and church family.
A celebration of life service will be at The Crossing Church, Harrison Ave., St. Albans, from 10 a.m. to noon for visitation, with the service following at noon on Saturday, February 2. The family will also receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 4, at Ridgedale Baptist Church in the Ridgedale Room, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga. Burial with military graveside rites will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
