Arlene E. (nee Griggs) Faris, 88, of St Charles, MO passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2015. She joins her husband, George Faris; her parents, Clyde and Mildred (nee Treakle) Griggs; and a brother, Leroy Griggs.
Arlene is survived by her daughters, Dianne Simmons and Janet Vetsch; son, Wayne (Stephanie) Faris; grandchildren, Barb (James) Tinker, Ron Capraro, Melanie Simmons, Jason Tilinski, Kevin Faris, and Chris Faris; great grandchildren, Crystal Taylor, Ricky Taylor, and Nicholas Wright; great great grandchildren, Patrick, Antonio, and Israel; and a brother, Bob Griggs.
Arlene was a very active lady who was never without her lipstick and always looked her best. She retired after nearly 40 years from McDonnell-Douglas where she was a very hard worker who took pride in her work. Her male co-workers benefited from her creativity when she created curvaceous silhouettes of ladies which she would fuse onto their thermos handles—there was always a waiting list! She was very thrifty and loved her family. She would do anything for anyone and was always an advocate for the needy. It wasn’t uncommon for her to take in teenagers who needed a home and many years ago helped a young, neighbor girl get a much needed surgery from Shriner’s Hospital by walking from door to door to petition signatures. Arlene always bought a lot of dolls which she would crochet fancy outfits for them (including hats and purses!) and she would donate these dolls to children in foreign countries. She had a huge heart and was the rock of the family—always babysitting and giving loans whenever needed. She will be missed by all whom had the pleasure to have known her.
Services: Friends may visit at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home on Monday, January 19 from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
