Hikaru Scott Nozawa, beloved Father, Ojiichan, Brother, artist, professional photographer, and brightest light of a man, passed away on December 21, 2021, in Chesterfield, Missouri surrounded by his loved ones. He was 81 years old. Scott’s name, Hikaru, means “shining one” in Japanese. He truly embodied that name.
He was a man who brought joy to all who knew him.
Scott was born in 1940, to parents Misao “Mary” Nitta and Tomotsu “Ralph” Nozawa in Stockton, California. Scott and his family were interned in the Japanese Internment Camp in Rohwer, Arkansas during WWII. After the war, he and his family relocated to St. Louis Missouri, where he grew up in University City. Scott served our country and joined the United States Air force serving as a radar operator. After his service, he discovered his passion for photography. He was a born photographer, as you could not be in a room with him without smiling. His bright smile and boisterous laughter was infectious.
Scott was a past member of APPI the Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois where he served as President on their board. He was also a past member of PPA Professional Photographers of America where he earned his Master of Photography. Scott owned and operated his business, Scott Nozawa Photography, with his partner and ex-wife Cynde Nozawa Watson for over 30 years. He was a member of the Quincy Rotary organization and served the community of Quincy Illinois.
Scott was an avid golfer and bowler. He earned a hole in one and his 300 ring. He was a major St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved to enjoy life, laugh, dancing, to be surrounded by his family and friends, and spreading joy to others.
Later in life he would spend his winters in Los Angeles, California where he would cherish time with his grandchildren, eat endless sushi, and enjoy “the good life”.
Scott is survived by his beloved daughters, Karrie Kiyomi Nozawa Franchina and Kimi Kiyoko Nozawa, along with his Brother Yasuto Don Nozawa, his sisters, Tamiko Nozawa & Yoshiko Nozawa Lesinski. Last but not least, his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Giuseppe Hikaru Franchina & Francesca Kiyomi Franchina.
