John C. Hirbe “Jack”, 78, of St. Charles, MO, returned to his home in heaven on March 18, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen (nee Aud) Hirbe; his first wife, Jane; and his brothers, Francis, Robert, Joe, and Jim. Jack is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cheryl (nee Noblett) Hirbe; daughter, Jackie Hirbe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Jack was a devoted Christian and a member of Grace Church in Maryland Heights, MO. Jack was a member of the National Guard and a loving husband and caring father. He provided for his family and gave his only daughter many opportunities he had not been given. He retired from General Motors as a Warehouse Clerk and described his work day as ‘grocery shopping’. Something he continued after hours, as he always did everything possible to make Jackie’s friends growing up welcome in his home, including making grocery runs for teenage snack cravings. He spent his time after retirement doing custodial work for the church, volunteering at Mark Twain Manor Nursing Home, and greeting visitors at DePaul and St. Joseph’s Hospitals. Jack had a great sense of humor, albeit quirky, and was fun to be around. He enjoyed old cars, loved taking walks, working on home projects and gardening. He also enjoyed taking short adventure trips with his love, Cheryl. His smile and gentle spirit will be missed. Jack’s father was a caretaker for Bellefontaine Cemetery and he and his brothers spent their childhoods playing on the beautiful, historic grounds. He will be laid to rest here with his family.
